SEO/GEO Strategist – Home Services Lead Generation
Signature Media is a home services marketing agency. We run paid advertising, SEO, and AI search optimization for roofing, foundation repair, waterproofing, plumbing, and pest control companies across the US.
Our clients don't hire us for rankings reports. They hire us because their pipeline needs to move. Every decision we make traces back to one number: qualified leads that turn into booked jobs. That's what shapes how we build sites, how we report, and how we hire.
We're a small, tight-knit team that genuinely enjoys the work – and we're looking for someone who wants ownership, not a task list. This is a fully remote role, open to candidates based anywhere in the US. If that sounds like you, read on.
The role
This is a traditional SEO-first position with real expansion scope into AI search visibility (GEO – generative engine optimization). You'll own organic strategy across a multi-client home services portfolio – starting with the foundation (technical SEO, structured data and schema, Google Business Profile, content topical coverage) before building out the AI-search angle: LLM citation strategies, AI Overviews positioning, conversational-query optimization, and ongoing AI-visibility measurement. AI search is moving fast – we don't expect anyone to walk in with every answer; we expect curiosity, judgment, and a willingness to ship.
This role goes hands-on when it matters – testing new GEO tactics, validating a schema approach, debugging an AI-visibility shift, figuring out what works before it scales. The principle is: go into the weeds once, document the process, automate or delegate it, then move on. We want your strategic thinking applied across every client at scale – not your time stuck writing blog posts or responding to reviews by hand. Content drafting, repetitive Google Business Profile work, and PR outreach execution are handled by AI workflows, admin support, and contractors under your direction.
The scoreboard is qualified leads that turn into booked jobs from organic and AI search – not rankings, not impressions, not raw traffic. A page that ranks #1 for a vanity keyword and never converts is expensive noise. We track all the way through to closed jobs and we'd love for you to think that way too.
This role has a capability-based path to SEO/GEO Lead or SEO Director – advancement tied to the scope, results, and leadership you prove, not tenure. We'd rather build that from within.
What you'll be doing
- Audit incoming accounts for technical SEO debt, Google Business Profile health, content topical gaps, and AI-search visibility – without being pointed at them
- Build per-client SEO and GEO strategy: keyword and topical coverage maps, content brief priorities, Google Business Profile optimization roadmaps, AI-search positioning
- Architect structured data and schema across client sites – LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, HowTo, speakable, and the entity relationships that help search engines and AI engines understand who each client is and what they do
- Operate AI-visibility measurement tools as a core part of the workflow – baseline every client, track week-over-week shifts, surface citation and ranking opportunities across AI search and answer engines
- Set Google Business Profile strategy and standards across the portfolio – categories, services, posts and review cadence, Q&A architecture, photo direction. Day-to-day execution (manual review responses, scheduled posts) is handled by admin support or AI workflows under your direction
- Lead the planning and AI-system training behind our content production – set topical strategy, brief structure, and quality bar. This is not a writing role. Drafting happens in an AI-assisted lane with human editing; you spec what "good" looks like, train the system to hit it, and QA what comes out
- Own the digital PR strategy that drives GEO authority – define target publications, angles, and asset opportunities (expert quotes, data pitches, HARO/Qwoted-style placements). Outreach execution is handed to admin support or specialist contractors against your brief
- QA/QC the SEO and GEO accuracy of work in flight on multi-page website projects – project sequencing sits with the project management lane; you own that what ships meets the standard
- Partner with the paid search team on conversion improvements when on-site experience is hurting lead quality from organic or AI traffic
- Use Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4, and AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT) as everyday workflow – not occasionally, daily
- Build automations and workflows that turn one-time work into repeatable processes – AI prompts, no-code automations, scripts, whatever fits. Go into the weeds once, document, automate or delegate, then scale
- Deliver weekly reporting in plain language: what changed, why, and what's next
What you bring
Required
- 3+ years of SEO experience across a multi-client portfolio – agency experience strongly preferred
- At least one 2+ year tenure at a single employer somewhere in your career history. We're a small team and we hire people who stay. A resume of consecutive short stints is not the fit
- Hands-on technical SEO depth: site audits, JSON-LD schema architecture, internal linking, page speed and Core Web Vitals diagnostics (LCP / INP / CLS), site migrations, log file analysis, rendering behavior on modern JS frameworks (React, Next.js, headless). You don't need to be a developer, but you should be the SEO who can read a render trace and tell us what's wrong
- Google Business Profile and multi-location local SEO experience
- AI used as a builder, not just a user – you've created repeatable workflows, automations, prompts, or processes that scaled your SEO work beyond manual execution (Make.com, Zapier, n8n, custom scripts, Claude Projects, MCP integrations, or comparable). Daily use of Claude and ChatGPT as part of real workflow, with the judgment to not ship lazy AI output
- Entity and knowledge-graph thinking applied to SEO – comfort with entity-relationship modeling, knowledge panels, structured-data entity signals, and how AI engines parse authority. This is core to the AI-search work, not a bonus
- Comfort building expertise in AI search – willingness to learn and ship faster than the field is moving
- Plain-language reporting; can defend a recommendation with data
Nice to have
- Home services background: roofing, foundation repair, waterproofing, plumbing, pest control, or similar trades
- Hands-on experience with AI-visibility tracking platforms (Profound, Peec, Otterly, Goodie, AthenaHQ, or comparable)
- Experience adapting SEO work for AI-driven search results
- Content brief writing for AI-assisted production teams
- Digital PR background for SEO authority – HARO/Qwoted, expert positioning, data-driven outreach
- BigQuery, GA4 explorations, or other SQL-level analytics work
- Public portfolio, blog, GitHub, or conference talks demonstrating depth
Who this role is not for
We hire better when we're explicit about who won't enjoy this seat. This is not the role for you if:
- You need to be onboarded on AI. We use Claude daily, run automations across the team, and ship faster because of it. We're not the place to learn it from scratch – you'll fall behind on day one and never catch up
- You haven't held a job 2+ years. We're a small team and turnover hurts us disproportionately. If your resume is consecutive short stints, this won't be the place that breaks the pattern
- Your SEO is mostly buzzwords without depth. We can tell the difference in 60 seconds of resume reading. We won't waste your time or ours pretending otherwise
- You want a 9-to-5 task list. This role owns outcomes across a client book, not tasks from a queue. Strategic ownership is the job
- You're a freelancer or agency operator looking to keep your book on the side. This is a full-time W-2 seat with full focus on Signature Media's client portfolio
What you get
- $65,000–$78,000 base salary
- Variable compensation tied to the qualified-lead growth of the portfolio you run and the operational excellence of how you run it – structure shared during the interview process
- Health, dental, and vision – HDHP/HSA with employer contribution
- 401(k) with 4% employer match
- $2,000/year for certifications, training, and conferences
- Fully remote with unlimited PTO
- Quarterly in-person team meetups
- Capability-based path to SEO/GEO Lead or SEO Director
